Klæde | Pattern Design
My first collection, San Francisco, was inspired by different tiles I had seen and loved around the city. I started with the idea to create a collection based on the neighborhoods of SF and spent time in each neighborhood taking photos and sketching ideas. Once my vision for each kerchief was ready, I hand-painted each design using the cohesive color palette I made for the collection (on a whim, I made the San Francisco color palette its own kerchief, and the different color palette kerchiefs became our biggest hit!).
Once my designs were ready, I worked with a few different manufacturers around the city to test out different fabrics and ultimately created a custom cotton and silk blend to get the perfect balance between durability and softness. I worked hand-in-hand with our manufacturer to create small batches for each collection so we would not produce waste, and to get the colors and sewing techniques just right.
Each collection went through a similar process of creating a cohesive collection theme, sketching and ideating on the designs, and working with our manufacturer to create the finished kerchiefs. For the Artist Collaborations, I connected with different artists to create custom prints for Klæde. Some of the artists I collaborated with for unique artist collections were Amber Vittoria, Ronni Nicole, Liv Lee, Amanda Jane Jones, and Ana Leovy.
Each collection can be found below, and on klædekerchief.com through the collection pages as well as the lookbooks.
